FCA, for those who don’t know, is Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It is an organization that has spread across many schools that gives athletes the opportunity to praise God and learn more about scripture together. Along with learning more about God and scripture, before the meetings PCM FCA has meals provided by the community and during the meeting they also play games. Many athletes are nervous to attend FCA because they don’t know God, don’t go to church or don’t know anything about scripture. Not knowing anything about God or scripture is okay. Athletes can still come, learn and some are even inspired to attend church and learn more about God and scripture. Because PCM FCA only allows high school athletes to attend, student and parent leaders have decided to let the 8th grade class come into the March 19th meeting to see if FCA is something they want to attend or even be a leader of when they get to high school. PCM FCA leader, Abi Teeter, talks more about why the leaders have decided to let the eighth grade class attend the March 19 meeting. “We want FCA to be known as a place where new students coming into the High School can meet new people and enhance their faith journey as teenagers struggling with things in and out of High School“. Along with the decision to let the eighth grade class attend an FCA meeting, PCM FCA is also hosting the 2024 Fields of Faith. The Fields of Faith is attended by any school in the state of Iowa that has FCA meetings and is willing to attend. There will be games, scripture and even a guest speaker, that speaker being Jason Bauer, past Iowa basketball guard from 95-96. Last year’s Fields of Faith was held by Newton FCA, and their leaders have been tremendously helpful in the process of hosting the event at PCM. Weather permitting, the event will be held on April 7 at 6 PM, on the PCM High School football field. If the weather does not hold, the event will be held in the high school gymnasium. PCM FCA leader, Abi Teeter, tells us more about the event. “At Fields of Faith, we will worship, talk in small groups, listen to Jason (Bauer) talk on keeping faith throughout not only athletics but in life and play games. This is a great opportunity for high school athletes to meet new people and relate to athletes their age“. FCA is an amazing opportunity for athletes to learn more about God and scripture with their teammates. With the busy schedules of athletes, the meetings are held once almost every 2-3 weeks, with the attempt to not be held on Wednesday so the athletes can go to their church youth groups. If you have a child who is an athlete or you are a student athlete, FCA is a great place to be and something everyone should attend at least once to see if it is something they want to keep pursuing.
