Boys Win Their First Game at Chariton

by Rory Van Gorp

On April 17, the PCM boys’ soccer team traveled to Chariton for the second time. This time, however, proved much more fruitful. The Mustangs were able to come back and defeat Chariton 3-1 after losing a close game three weeks ago.

The Mustangs came to this game hungry and wanting to prove themselves after losing in shootouts the last time they faced Chariton. The first goal was scored by senior and team captain Drew Johnson off a deflection.

The first half ended 1-0 with the Mustangs in the lead, but Chariton quickly equalized. Senior Brayden Chesshire scored the Mustangs second goal off a corner kick. As Chariton was rushing to get another goal to hopefully send the game into overtime, sophomore Noah Hirayama put one in the back of the net to seal the deal.

“We saw some good runs offensively, but I do not think that they were perfect. We can definitely improve on the flow of the offense to get some even better runs,” Hirayama said about the offensive performance of the team.

The Mustangs go to Bondurant-Farrar on tomorrow, April 27. JV starts at 5:30 p.m. with varsity after at 7 p.m.
