Girls’ golf puts to two straight wins

After being rescheduled and relocated a number of times, the PCM girls’ varsity golf team headed for Pleasantville on April 13 for a 9-hole meet versus the Pleasantville Trojans and the Carlisle Wildcats. The Mustangs sealed their second win of the season, carding a total team score of 189 points. Following them was the Wildcats, who scored 210 and the Trojans with 241. The PCM girls are undefeated so far this season.

“The girls played really well and we came home with another win and also a couple of personal bests,” head coach Val Edwards said.

Senior Breanna Maher was runner-up with 41 points. Carlisle’s Macey Brower was medalist with 39 points. Following Maher was junior Madeline Mitchell with 45 points, and junior Sabrina Reed with a personal best of 48. Sophomore Lexi Reed also carded a personal best, shooting a 55. Followingthem were sophomore Mackenzie Bussan and junior Ellie Steenhoek with 57 and 63, respectively.

Edwards said, “We were just seven strokes away from tying our 9-hole meet record of 182, so I think we can break that record this season.”

The girls will be heading to Oskaloosa to play in an 18-hole meet at Edmundson Golf Course tonight, April 20, for the Oskaloosa Invitational. As of press time, the start time of the meet is to be decided.
