As I am writing this, it is the first snow of the year. Abnormally I am excited about it! I think for me the snow is a reminder that the best holiday, Christmas, is right around the corner. It also means it’s getting colder out. Because it’s so cold, it creates a more warm and cozy feeling when you’re inside. The cold allows people to dress in so many layers, which makes for the cutest outfits. The coziness of these outfits plays into Christmas too. The trend of ugly Christmas sweaters would not happen if it wasn’t cold outside.
Another great thing about snow is how pretty it is. The snow creates a soft blanket of white over the cold hard ground. Snow is also unique. There are 35 different shapes of snowflakes. Not only does that make snow unique it is also rare because not everyone gets to experience seeing all of them. Less than 31% of earth is covered in snow during winter. That means not even half of the population gets to experience a white Christmas or even participate in the winter activities.
I love the winter activities and treats. Here in Iowa you can go ice skating, sledding, to winter festivals, and performances. While the treats you can find in small adorable cafes. The limited edition drinks and treats make people even more excited about this time of the year. These ventures add to the holiday spirit and make it fun.
Another thing that makes people excited about this time of year is the holidays. There are many holidays in the winter time. The main ones being Hanukkah, Christmas, New years, and Valentines day. Christmas is the most popular holiday by far. This is the time of year for meeting up with family and showing love. The main way people show their affection is through gifts. Kids that attend school also get a long, winter break. For me that is one of my favorite parts of the season. It helps me reset to become more organized and ready for school to start again.
The only downside of snow is driving, but I am fourteen and don’t have to drive myself anywhere so it works out fine for me. Although the driving is hard, all of the fun activities and celebrations cancel out the bad. So if you ever wish it wasn’t winter, don’t forget about all the joy this season brings.
