Maher matched record on home course

by Kinsey Phipps

Finally, the time had come to step foot on home soil for the PCM varsity girls’ golf team. The girls gathered together for the 18-hole meet on April 30. The day was a good one for all the golfers, but sophomore Bre Maher came out on top yet again.
“Congratulations to Breanna Maher on winning medalist honors in tonight’s meet,” Head Coach Val Edwards said. “The girls played pretty well and [it] was a great day for golf. I am excited for these girls as they continue to improve each meet.”
The Mustangs ended in fourth place out of five teams with an overall score of 463. Behind Maher was freshman Ellie Steenhoek, shooting a 119. Close behind her was another freshman, Sabrina Reed, who shot a 124. Junior Abby Van Haaften came next with 135.
“I was overjoyed to learn that I had tied my previous 18-hole record but couldn’t help but be a little disappointed for being so close [to breaking it],” Maher said. “With a lot of time, effort and hard work, my next goal is to re-break all of the records I have set this season by my senior year.”
The next meet for the girls is tonight, May 7, in Moravia at an undecided time.
