On April 24, the biggest track meet of the year was taking place: The Drake Relays. The PCM girls’ 4×100 team was lucky enough to perform at this prestigious event.
The Mustangs went into the event seeded 60th out of the 80-team field, and they ended up finishing in 45th place.
The runners performing in this event for the Mustangs were senior Mackenzie Clarke, juniors Emily Hugen and Ashley Van Gorp and sophomore Jayci Vos.
“We didn’t know if we were going to make it this year, and when we figured out that we did, it was a blessing. We were really excited to go to the blue oval,” Hugen said.
The team didn’t just beat 15 teams that were seeded higher than them, but they also set a season best at the meet.
It was awesome that we made it and we used it to our advantage because we got a new season best, and we’re going to try to keep dropping the time,” said Van Gorp.
Hugen also said, “It was awesome to see all the world class athletes.”
