The new golf season is in full swing, and there are many new faces for the squad this year. For the third year in a row, there is a new leader at the helm of the PCM varsity boys’ golf squad. Dale Vanderlinden is the new head boys’ golf coach.
The wind blew hard, and the mist and fog were thick as the boys had their first meet in chilly, 45-degree weather on April 7 in Lynnville at the Diamond Trail Golf Club. PCM took home the gold, shooting a 164, edging out Lynnville-Sully and Eddyville-Blakesburg, who shot 176 and 188, respectively. Four golfers for PCM led the way: seniors Chase Keuning, Ryan Broderson and Wade Hill, and junior Reid Jenkins each shot a 41. Freshman Noah Lanphier shot a 43, while sophomore Ryan Hiill carded a 44.
The team has two golfers getting varsity experience for the first time this season: Broderson and Lanphier.
Jenkins said, “We played really well for the first meet, especially with the conditions. Our goals for the year are to be competitive in every meet that we play in.”
The boys have a meet today, April 16 at Jester Park in Des Moines at 1:30 p.m.
