PCM boy’s basketball starts season hot vs. Knoxville

The PCM Boys Basketball team started off their season with a solid win over Knoxville on Tuesday. The team played exceptionally well winning 70-52. It was a great second quarter that propelled them to extending the lead, outsourcing Knoxville 17-3 in that period. Junior Jacob Wendt led the team in points with 25, shooting 9/12 from the field.

“It felt really good, it was fun,” Wendt said. He also finished with six rebounds and three assists.

“It was a really good team win, we played with really good intensity,” He said. The Mustangs started off hot but Knoxville was making shots too so the first quarter ended 16-11. After Head Coach Fred Lorensen addressed the team at the break, Wendt and company came out in the second quarter out-scoring the Panthers by 14 to go into the half up 33-14.

“I was really proud of how we performed, I think we really exceeded expectations,” senior August Stock said. He finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Stock was also 2/2 from three. 

“It was really fun, I think I had a good game after not playing for two years,” Stock said. The senior has dealt with several injuries over the past two seasons including a major knee surgery. 

After the half The offense picked up for both teams after both scored 19 in the third quarter. The big difference in the game was the three point shot, the Mustangs shot 8/14 (57.1%) from behind the arc while Knoxville shot just 9/36 (25%).

The statbook came down to Jacob Wendt: 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Gavin VanGorp: 16 points, two rebounds, one assist, and three steals. August Stock: 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Grant Van Veen: Eight points, nine rebounds, one assist, two steals, and three blocks. Kaleb Devries: Eight points, five rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. Jack Jungling was the only scorer off the bench with one point off of a lone free throw. Mark Bussan also recorded two rebounds off the bench.

The Mustangs have this as a hot start to their season as they look to build off of it and continue to ‘Exceed expectations’ as the season progresses. This team certainly has the talent and experience to make some noise.
