March 23rd it all began. The PCM boys’ soccer team officially started their season. Working hard to get better. As far as common knowledge goes, the boys usually end up having rough seasons, which end in numerous losses. As last year their season saw a record of 2 wins and 10 losses. This year they are looking to change things up a bit, maybe turn the tables of fate.
“Everyone is working hard with great attitudes and effort,” Head Coach Darrin Telfer said. “We are off to a pretty good start, and am feeling good as the season moves forward.”
However, the Varsity team used to be stacked with seniors so with only three returning starters and after the first game, it appears as though they will need to work hard to reach their seemingly high goals.
They played Pella Christian Thursday the 2nd, and it was a brutal battle. The boys started up slow as Pella started running up on them early in the game. By half it was 6-0, Pella Christian lead. Second half saw PCM’s first goal by freshman Tony Merrill with an assist from junior Ryan Kohlhof. The second half alone was an even 1-1 match, ending the game 7-1.
“The main goal for the team is to improve as the season moves on,” Telfer said. “We start with some tough competition, and we are a young team.”
