Gilbert tramples PCM in key district game

By Wes Cummings

The PCM girls’ volleyball team hosted the Gilbert Tigers for their third home match of the year last Tuesday Sept. 18. The energy was high, and the Mustangs were ready to play, but it was the Heart of Iowa Conference rival Gilbert Tigers who came out on top taking all three sets.

The Mustangs came out strong in the first set with many great vollies and plays, but the Tigers had the edge, winning the first set 25-13. In the second set, Gilbert dominated. The Mustangs had trouble putting points on the board as the tigers won 25-4. The third set wasn’t so different. Gilbert kept their foot on the pedal and beat the Mustangs 25-9 to take the match in three straight sets.

“We went out there and played hard,” sophomore Emma Houser explained. “Gilbert is a very well rounded team and plays smart volleyball. We had our ups and downs throughout the game; we served well, but we just need some more communication in some places.”

The Mustangs are currently seventh in the Heart of Iowa Conference, but as the season is winding down, the Mustangs are still training hard to go out with a bang.
