The PCM girls track team placed third in a meet that included eight other teams at Pella on Monday, May 8. The Mustangs had one first place finish, two second place finishes, and five third place finishes. Those placings help the Mustangs score a total of 92 points for a third place finish in a crowded meet. The Mustangs only finished behind first place Pella and second place Grinnell.
Sophomore Paytan Schut was the only PCM runner to place first in the meet, and she did it in the 800 meter run. She crossed the finish line with a time of 2:25:98. Pella’s Payton Phelps was right on her heals with a time of 2:26:98.
The Mustangs had two second place finishes on the night. Sophomore Megan Cowman placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.07. Senior Jayci Vos was the other second place finish. She ran a season best 66.14 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Mustangs most productive placing of the night was the third place finish, which the girls had five of. Junior Ashley Miller finished third in 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash with with times of 13.38 and 27.29, respectively. Miller’s 200 meter dash time of 27.29 was a lifetime personal best for her. Freshman Lexi Kuecker finished third in the long jump with a jump of 15′ 6 1/2”. That jump was a personal lifetime best for Kuecker. Kuecker also finished third in the distance medley along with freshmen Kate McCarthy, Shcut, and senior Rachel Stafford with a time of 4:28:69 which was a season best.
Head Coach Bridget Martin said, “ We had a great night tonight with excellent weather conditions. Even in the last meets of the season we are still competing. A lot of girls ran their bets time of the season in the meet. There was some tough competition tonight. Our girls showed a lot of huge improvements in the meet.”
The girls next meet is the State meet which is on May, 18-20.
