The Mustang wrestlers traveled to a new high school, Ankeny Centennial, for the Ankeny Centennial Dual Team Tournament on Dec. 13. The wrestlers took on three teams: Southeast Polk, Ottumwa and the home team, Ankeny Centennial. The Mustangs finished in seventh place out of eight teams.
The first match of the day was against Southeast Polk. They defeated PCM 78-6. Thanks to senior Tristan Clark, the Mustangs were on the board for this match. He won over his opponent, weighing 126 pounds, in 40 seconds.
The second match was a little better against Ottumwa, but the Mustangs were defeated 64-15. Again, Clark helped the team get on the board. He won his match, scoring six points for the team. He had some help from his teammates, though. Sophomore Xavier Miller, weighing 120 pounds, beat his opponent in 1:21, also scoring six points for the team. Senior Trent Malone help the Mustangs get 15 points by winning his match in weight class 285. He won by decision, 3-0. He scored three points for the boys.
The last match was against the home team. The Mustangs were defeated again 66-16. Clark beat his opponent in 4:23. He scored six points for the team. Miller won another match, scoring four points for the team. Sophomore Leevi Telfer, weighing 220 pounds, won his match in 50 seconds. He scored six points for the team.
