On Dec. 4, the PCM Drill Team danced their routines of pom, jazz and hip-hop at the ISDTA , the
Iowa State Drill Team Association, State competition. For Coaches Morgan Steenhoek and Jill Birkenholtz, this is their second year of coaching this PCM Drill Team.
Their first routine was set to start at around 10 a.m., which was jazz. This year was the first year they competed jazz in a few years, replacing co-ed. They received fifth place for jazz, also earning a Division I.
“I think the girls did a great job with their jazz routine,” Steenhoek said. “It is a very technical category that PCM hasn’t competed in for years, so to receive a Division I rating and bring home a trophy their first year competing in the class is a great accomplishment. They performed so well, and as coaches, we are so proud of them.”
Next, the girls danced their second number at around 3:15 p.m. This dance was pom. After about three years of receiving first place, they received second and also a Division I rating. Lastly, the girls danced at around 8:30 p.m. for hip-hop. They received third place, tying with another school, also receiving a Division I.
