by Brady Fagen

On Feb. 7, the Mustangs’ varsity wrestling squad headed to Solon for regional duals. The first round match-ups were PCM versus Mount Vernon and Saydel versus Solon.

Mount Vernon hammered the Mustangs 63-17, although the Mustangs were without Payton Drake, Caleb Peter, Xavier Miller, Leevi Telfer and Clayton Welch.  This loss sent the Mustangs home. Sophomore Jarron Trausch, Lucas Roland, and senior Jakeb Fenton were the only ones to win their match.

Meanwhile, Solon and Saydel were facing off. Saydel’s Devon Van Houten and Cody Lehmon were the only ones to win their match. Bryce West (Solon) beat Mike Moore (Saydel) to obtain his 200th career win. Solon beat Saydel 70-12, sending the Eagles home.

The regional dual championship between Mount Vernon and Solon was won by Solon 51-18. No. 5 Tyler Linderbaum from Solon beat No. 3 Tristin Wirfs from Mount Vernon with an impressive overtime pin. Solon’s Drew West pinned Mount Vernon’s Graham Bradbury to get his 200th career win as well. The West brothers from Solon came out of the night earning their 200 career wins. Their combined record is an impressive 401-6.  Solon will advance to State Duals.
