PCM girls knock out Raiders

by Caleb Peter

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Baxter, the Mustang girls defeated conference foe CMB 56-40. The Raiders managed to lead in the first quarter 15-12, but the Mustangs picked up their defense and led the rest of the game. Senior Kayla Jennings led the girls in scoring with 19 points. Senior Katie Vandewall wasn’t far behind Jennings with 14 points. Seniors Rachel Stafford, Bailey Broderson and Kaylee Townsend each scored six points.

Starters were seniors Vandewall, Stafford, Townsend and Jennings and freshman Regan Freland.

“Some may argue that the game was close; others might see it differently. There was no doubt that we were tired from a difficult game on Monday night against Pella Christian. That was the first time this year that we have played two games in a row,” said Stafford.

The girls’ team  now has a 5-1 record.

“I am so excited to see where the team goes this year,” said Stafford. “We have the talent, potential, and determination to do some amazing things. The greatest part about our team is that everything we do tailors to every player on the floor. We emphasize the team effort, and each player is as valuable as the next. When one of us is struggling, others step up. I think that such a mindset with take us very far.”

The girls will play again this Friday, Dec. 16 at South Hamilton.
