Jamboree gives sneak peek at season

by Zach DeBruin

Monday, Nov. 13 marked the beginning of the 2016 girls’ basketball season. The Lady Stangs made their way to Sully to play Colfax-Mingo in a pre-season jamboree. The end score in one half of play was 43-15 with Mustangs coming out on top. Needless to say, Coach Jeff Lindsay has high hopes for the season

“‘I’m excited for the upcoming season. We have a good group of upper classmen blended with some younger girls that will allow for good competition,” Lindsay said. “We played good defense which led to efficient scoring on the offensive end. Offensively, we shared the ball very well, which gave us easy opportunities. I also felt we were aggressive and ran the floor well.”

Though the season has started with a bang, it is still early and there is always room for improvement. “We hope to improve by teaching the younger girls our system and elevating their skill level throughout the season. For the older girls it’s a matter of polishing what they know and being able to take the next step,” Lindsay said.

With the scrimmage behind the team, they now have time to get better and be ready for the season. The competition this year is sure to give the girls an acceptable challenge.

“The competition will be tough. We play in a good conference with tough non-conference teams. I think we can have a really nice season, but we need to stay focused and continue to work hard everyday and stick together,” Lindsay said.

Fans should keep up with the girls as they trot into the 2016 season.  The girls’ team will play at home on Nov. 29 against Roland-Story.
