On Oct. 7, a group of six freshmen choir members went to Central College in Pella for a day of fun
and singing.
Central College hosts Singfest, an honor choir that lasts all day for eighth and ninth graders, every year in the fall. Participants sing a selection of songs, all of which are selected by director, Mr. Mark Babcock.
Ms. Meredith Blankenheim, PCM choir director, has sent students for years now, and this year the group of kids who went were all freshmen. These students include Sydney Burns, Skylar Hutchings, Ben Block, Amber Meyer, Kesli Gillman and Darian Drake.
“Overall the day was awesome,” freshman Sydney Burns said. “I look forward to going to Singfest every year.”
The concert at night started off with the Central Chamber Singers. After they sang their song, the A Cappella Choir sang their selections. Almost done with the concert, the middle school and high school honor choir sang. They sang many different choral songs, including “Veni Sanctus Spiritus,” “You Have Wings To Fly,” “The Gallant Knight” and “Noel.” After the Honor Choir got done with their performance, the Central choirs came up and sang their last selection, “Let Everything That Hath Breath,” with the honor choir.
The next Central Singfest will be held in February 2015 for grades 10-12.
