PCM girls take second

Last Monday, April 18, the PCM girls’ track team competed at the Bengal Relays in Gilbert. The team took second overall out of seven teams, as the Mustangs were able to secure top finishes in many events.
First-place finishes for the Mustangs include: The 4×400 team of juniors Jayci Vos, Tatum Nearmeyer and Rachel Stafford and freshman Maddie Samson and the distance medley of senior Emily Hugen, freshman Megan Cowman, Nearmeyer and Stafford.
Sophomore Ashley Miller placed second in the 100-meter dash beating out teammate Morgan Uhlenhopp, a freshman, who took third with times of 14.42 and 14.51, respectively. Sophomore Paytan Schut was able to place second and fourth in the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs as she crossed with times of 2:39.45 and 5:35.17, respectively. The sprint medley relay team of Hugen, senior Ashley Van Gorp, Vos and Stafford took second place. The two Vs, Vos and Van Gorp, would also take a second-place and third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash with a times of 17.36 and 28.3, respectively.
Head Coach Bridget Martin said, “We were able to battle tough weather conditions to make some improvements in times and battle for places. We were able to compete against several times that we will meet later in the year at conference and districts, which is good competition for us to face.”
The Mustangs will be out and running again on Thursday, April 28, in Pella at Pella Community High, with an estimated 5 p.m. start.
