Mustang golfers improve scores

by Logan Gilman

Instead of relaxing over the weekend, the PCM Mustang boys’ golf team was in action on April 15, and April 16. The Mustangs played at Bos Landen Golf Club in Pella on Friday and teed off at Pine Knolls Country Club in Knoxville on Saturday.
For the first meet, the squad took home third in a field of seven. The Mustangs were the only 2A team at the meet. Leading the way for the Mustangs, like he has every meet of the year, was senior leader Reid Jenkins who shot an 81. Sophomore Dayton Boell came in with an 86, while junior Ryan Hill shot a 91. Freshman Reed Worth rounded out the scorers carding a 92.
Hill said, “I think we shot okay for playing at Bos Landen. It was the same score we shot at sectionals last season.”
As a team, the boys shot a 350, which was their best 18-hole score of the year at the time. But records were made to be broken.
On Saturday, the squad loaded up the suburban at 6:50 a.m. to head to Knoxville. Jenkins led the way, carding a 78. Senior Logan Gilman carded an 84. Worth finished his day with an 88. Junior Braden Phifer finished out the eligible scorers for the Mustangs, shooting an 89. As a team, the Mustangs set a season-low score of a 339.
Hill also said, “I think Reid is playing well, and the team needs to back him up and fire some good rounds to improve our team score.”
The Mustangs will be back in action at their home invitation on Monday April 25 at Gateway Recreation in Monroe.
