Originally canceled because of windy, cold weather, the PCM girls’ golf team drove a couple blocks to the Gateway Golf Course in Monroe for their first of two home golf meets on April 5. The only other teams were Albia and Eddyvillle-Blakesburg-Fremont. PCM took over their home course, placing first, with a combined total of 213 strokes.
Junior Bre Maher shot a 46 in her first meet of the year, bringing home the meet in first. Sophomore Madeline Mitchell took over second place, shooting a 55. Junior Courtney Bridges and sophomore Sabrina Reed tied for third with 56 strokes. Sophomore Ellie Steenhoek and senior Abby Van Haaften shot a 61 and 69, respectively.
“It was exciting to win, but our team winning the meet was even better,” Maher said. “I think that we have real potential to go far this year, and I can’t wait to see how this season pans out.”
The next meet for the girls is Monday, April 18, at Terrace Hills Golf Course in Bondurant.
“I think starting off with a win gave them all much more confidence in their golf game,” Head Coach Val Edwards said. “I think the wins will continue with hard work at practice and getting more comfortable with the meet experience.
