Easy regional win for girls’ basketball

Easy regional win for girls basketball

by Taylor Burns

With the blizzard warning in effect, the PCM Mustangs girls’ basketball team stepped onto the court to play what could have been their last game for the season on Feb. 13. Fortunately, the girls pulled through, trampling the Clarke Indians 57-36.
The Mustangs had faith they could win the game, as they went into halftime leading 19-10.
With her season close to an end, senior Karina Van Dyke said, “I’m thankful for the win and so excited that I’ll get to play one last time Wednesday on my home court.”
Junior Kayla Jennings led the team with 19 points, while junior Jayci Vos was close behind her with 11. Juniors Katie Vande Wall and Rachel Stafford each had 10 rebounds.
The girls will continue to fight at Regionals. As of press time, the Regional game is Wednesday, Feb. 17, at home against the Chariton Chargers at 7 p.m. If the Mustangs beat the Chargers, they will continue on to Substate on Saturday, Feb. 20.
“At the beginning of the season, the list of games seemed so long, but now that we’ve reached the end, it’s crazy how fast it’s gone,” Van Dyke said.
