Ice rink opens for public

by Drew Johnson

To all those haters out there that says nothing new or exciting happens around here, you’re wrong.
According to sophomore Ben Block, Prairie City’s new ice rink is pretty exciting.
“It’s about half the size of an actual hockey rink, and the ice quality is good. Someone always comes to maintain it, unless it’s too warm,” Block said. “I go there two or three times a week, and I’ve gone there probably a total of 8 times.”
If you show up with some money expecting to rent some skates, you’re not in luck. There aren’t any skates to rent, but on the other hand, there is no skating fee. If you bring your own ice gliders, you can skate from the hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“It’s about half the size of an actual hockey rink, so it’s probably big enough for 10 people to skate comfortably,” Block said.
Now that Prairie City has this new rink, who knows what kind of attention it will draw or how many pickup hockey games will be played. Time’s running out, and the ice is going to starting to thawing. So grab your skates and hit the ice while you still can.
