Mustangs fall far from Cubs

by Kenzie Johnson

On Feb. 5, the PCM Mustang girls went up against with number-three ranked Nevada at home. The girls were coming off a win just the day before beating Saydel, but they knew this game was going to be rough, since Nevada is expected to go to State this year. The Mustangs played with all they had to give. After the last buzzer, the score was 43-23 with Nevada in favor.
The Mustangs came out slow ending the first half 13-4, with the Cubs in the lead.
“I thought we played a much better game against them than the last time.” Head Coach Jeff Lindsay said. “We were more aggressive and showed more confidence on both ends of the floor. We are showing improvement with every game. We still have one conference game left and are looking to finish strong. As for the post season, we have to see what Clarke has and put together a game plan and continue to work on bettering our game.”
Leading the Mustangs were junior Lexi Timmins with seven points and junior Jayci Vos with four points. Along with that, junior Katie Vande Wall led the team with eight rebounds, and junior Kayla Jennings had four steals.
“I thought we came out aggressively on offensive and defense, and that we surprised Nevada with the way we played.” Junior Lexi Timmins said, “We’re improving every game which will help us get ready when tournament games begin.”
Gilbert will host the Mustangs Feb. 9 with the girls starting at 6 p.m.
