Girls finish week with win

Girls finish week with win

by Tyler Foster

The PCM Mustang girls’ varsity basketball kicked off the year with a jamboree, which is simply a practice game. The scrimmage was Nov. 16 and set against Lynnville-Sully, the game was also played in Sully. The Mustangs found areas to improve on and then played their first regular season game of the year against Knoxville. After the week, the Mustangs moved to 1-0 on the season in a low-scoring affair, beating the Panthers 35-30 on Nov. 21.
The Mustangs distributed the scoring well, junior Katie Vande Wall led the team with eight points and grabbing five boards. Juniors Jayci Vos and Kayla Jennings each tallied six. The leading rebounders on the night were senior Karina Van Dyke and junior Bailey Brodersen, each corralling six a piece. Jennings also led the Mustangs in assists, distributing the ball around well, dishing out three assists.
“Patience was definitely the key in that game. We took our time and got the shot that wanted,” Vos said, “I think we need to improve on both ends, offense and defense. We don’t want to be satisfied with where where we are at.”
The Mustangs will look to gather another win against South Hamilton, on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The girls’ varsity game will begin at 6 p.m.
