All I want for Christmas is you

On October 29 1994 the Iconic Christmas song ¨All I Want For Christmas Is You” came out. This song is sung by Mariah Carey on her first holiday album. Mariah Carey wrote “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with co-writer Walter Afanasieff. Afanasieff was also a co-producer. This song is an up to beat love song that talks about showing love and appreciation for your partner rather than receiving gifts. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has been a success since it first released it reached number six on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary in the United States. This song starts back up every year in the month of December. 

Last Christmas 

December 3 1984 the song ¨Last Christmas” by the British pop duo Wham!. This song was written by one of the members George Micheal in his childhood bedroom when he and Ridgeley went to visit his parents. With Micheal not only writing the song but also playing every one  of the instruments. This song was inspired from one of Micheal’s past heartbreaks. The song has sorrowful  lyrics about love and loss. The early version of this song Micheal had called the song “a moment of wonder”.  After the song was released “Last Christmas” spent five weeks in the No.2 spot in the UK. 

Jingle Bell Rock 

In 1957 “Jingle Bell Rock” was released by Bobby Helms, an American country singer. The song was originally written by Joseph Carleton Beal and James Ross Booth, the writers wanted to mix rock ‘n’ roll with some Christmas spirit. Although Helms liked the melody he wasn’t overly impressed with the song and wanted there to be more rock. With the help of Helms guitarist Hank Garland, Garland added the opening guitar riff. With his help Helms and Garland made the song a more upbeat rock based song much less like the more standard Christmas songs we hear.
