On Jan. 6 in Monroe, the girls’ varsity basketball team defeated North Polk, 51-31. The top scorers were senior Kayla Jennings and freshman Regan Freland, both with 13 points. Senior Katie Vandewall had nine points.
“Definitely teamwork, just their heart, their desire, the way they played very good defense and offense also,” Head Coach Jeff Lindsay said, when asked why the Mustangs won the game Friday night.
With the defeat of North Polk, the Mustangs are currently standing in second place in the Heart of Iowa Conference standings, behind Nevada. “We’re where I thought we would be, especially after Friday night’s game. It’s looking pretty good,” said Lindsay.
Next up for the Mustangs is versus Roland Story in Story City this Friday, Jan. 13. Tip-off for the girls is at 6 p.m.
