Life with the iPhone 14 Pro

October 6, 2022

Apple unveiled its 2022 iPhone 14 lineup on Sept. 7. This year’s lineup included the budget iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, as well as the premium iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

Prior to the event, I’d had an iPhone XR since November of 2018. In order to get the phone, I had to do a lot of convincing to my parents so they would get it for my birthday that year. While the phone was originally great, the battery declined drastically as it aged. During this summer, I would use my phone in the morning before work for about an hour and then go in to work. Most days by the time noon rolled around, my phone would have less than 50 percent battery remaining. While I did have access to a charger most days, it was just a hassle to plug it in and not have it with me in case I got important calls or texts. Luckily, I found a portable charger on the ground one day and it came in handy more than a few times when I didn’t have time to charge my phone in the office.

I was dead set on getting the new iPhone model last year, but my dad said no and I didn’t have the money to get a new phone by myself. After this summer of work, I knew for a fact that I had enough money to buy the new iPhone all by myself. The announcement of the Apple event made me so happy because I was finally going to have a phone that would make it through an entire day. I was actually sick when the event happened, so I got to watch it all at home. The phone looked awesome and pre-orders were going live that Friday.

I woke up early that Friday morning and pre-ordered the phone first thing; I was committed to getting the phone and no one was going to stop me. It ended up being $1300, but the price wasn’t too bad considering I needed a new phone and it is going to last a long time. The phone arrived the following Friday, which was Homecoming, so the phone made its debut appearance at the Homecoming game.

After having the phone for about three weeks, I am happy to say I am glad that I purchased it. The battery life has been game changing for me because I never even have to worry about charging it anymore. One morning, I watched “The Walking Dead” for like four hours and the phone only went down to like 96 percent. By comparison, my iPhone XR would’ve been at like 60 percent after that.

I love the new Dynamic Island and it has come in handy plenty of times. Like when I am driving in the car, I can be on the maps and still see what song I am listening to thanks to the new technology. Also, while I could’ve gotten it on my old phone, iOS 16 makes the phone feel evermore premium. I love being able to have different lock and home screens; I also have a feeling that my XR would have blown up if I installed iOS 16 on it, so I know I am getting the optimal experience that Apple intended.

My only complaint about the phone would have to be the case I got for it, the Apple silicone case. It is red and I really like the color; however, dust and stuff from my shorts pockets get all over the case and the screen. I find myself blowing off the screen far more than I ever did with my old phone. The worst is when I wear jeans and the case literally gets fuzzy from lint.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase and have really enjoyed my iPhone 14 Pro. I can’t wait to see how reliable the device proves to be as more time goes on. I also hope to test out the new Emergency Satellite SOS and Crash Detection features, but hopefully I don’t actually end up in those situations. It’s safe to say that I am going to be an Apple fan for life.
