The word “difficult” is an understatement when trying to soar a 1.6-ounce ball across a golf course in wind and cold. This statement was more than true, as all the PCM varsity girls tried their best to push through on the May 11 meet in Knoxville.
Leading the stampede was sophomore Breanna Maher, carding a 114. Freshmen Sabrina Reed and Ellie Steenhoek were close behind, shooting a 127 and 129, respectively. Junior Abby Van Haaften was next, shooting a 136.
“All the girls struggled with the cold, windy day,” Head Coach Val Edwards said. “Breanna struggled with her drives the first round and started to get things going on the second nine but just couldn’t get her game going today [May 11]. Ellie, Sabrina and Abby struggled with their short game and trying to read the greens and how to play against the strong wind.”
The next meet for the girls will be on Tuesday, May 26. The time is to be decided.
