Hard work paid off at Districts

After all the hard work throughout the season, several events from the boys’ track team qualified for State on May 11 in Eddyville. The boys overall were third with 95 points, two points behind Albia and 58 points behind the District champions, Mid-Prairie, with 153.

Senior Noah Clark qualified in shot put throwing 48 feet, three and a half inches. He was second behind the shot put District champion, Levi Duwa of Mid-Prairie, throwing 55 feet. Clark was the only field event to qualify. Clark will be in flight one of the finals today, Thursday, May 18 around 4:30 p.m.

Sophomore Cole Dustin was the District winner in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.69. Dustin will compete in heat one of the preliminaries on Friday, May 19 around 3:20 p.m.

Senior Chris Ellens was second in the 1600-meter run with 4:38.70. He was again behind a Mid-Prairie runner, Zach Pettit, who ran a 4:37.29. Ellens will run in the finals on Saturday, May 20 around 2:22 p.m.

Ellens also qualified in the 3200-meter run placing fourth. He qualified for State based on his time of 10:14.99. Pettit was the winner of this race also with 9:54.49. Ellens will run in the finals today, Thursday, May 18 around 3:50 p.m.

Junior Noah Anderson and sophomore Preston Van Wyk each qualified in the 100 and 200-meter dash. They each qualified based on time also in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Anderson ran a 11.49 and Van Wyk ran a 11.53. Anderson will compete in heat two of the prelims for the 100-meter dash today, Thursday, May 18 around 6:45 p.m. Van Wyk will be in heat three.

In the 200-meter dash, Anderson was second in 22.66 with Van Wyk in third in 23.13. Anderson will again compete in heat two of the prelims for the 200-meter dash. Van Wyk will be in heat three. They will run today, Thursday, May 18 around 4:40 p.m.

The 4×200-meter relay was the final event to qualify. Sophomores Wes Cummings and Brayton Van Dyke, Van Wyk and Anderson were third running 1:34.12. They will compete in section two of the timed finals on Friday, May 19 around 4 p.m.
