On Feb. 9, the PCM boys’ varsity basketball team met up with Gilbert in a showdown with contention for the conference title on the line. Going into the game, PCM had four conference losses, and Gilbert had just three. However, a win would give the Mustangs a share of the conference lead with one game remaining. Despite poor shooting, the Mustangs hung around, but the Tigers proved to be too much, winning 58-46.
The Mustangs struggled from the field, shooting just 33-percent to Gilbert’s 40-percent. Leading scorer for the night was junior Luke Greiner with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and senior Logan Gilman contributed 11 points for the Mustangs.
PCM’s regular season is over; however, the Mustangs earned a first-round bye and play tonight in their first district game against the winner of Madrid and Woodward-Granger, with tipoff starting at 6:30 p.m. at Des Moines Christian High School in Des Moines.
